Borderway Christmas Poultry Sale 2009

On Monday 21st December 2009, Harrison & Hetherington Limited, Carlisle held their annual Christmas poultry sale of rough plucked and dress birds.

An entry of 250 lots were forward for sale and an overwhelming trade prevailed. The overall average for turkeys was £4.95 per kilo and geese attained an average of £6.30 per kilo.

Topping the turkey trade was an entry from Messrs Harrington of Moss Cottage, Wigton who sold a 5.2kg turkey for £11.35 per kilo and a 6.4kg turkey going for £8.40 per kilo.

The top consignment of turkeys came from Messrs Storrow of Willimoteswick Farm, Hexham who sold 42 lots of birds to average £5.30 per kilo.

Leading the goose entries was a bird shown by Messrs Dirom of Cotehouse Tower Farm, Carlisle who sold a 4.5kg goose for £7.11 per kilo.
