Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their weekly sale of sheep at Kirkby Stephen Mart on Tuesday where there were 961 sheep sold including 103 ewes with lambs at foot, 84 spring lambs, 238 lightweight hoggs, 304 prime hoggs and 232 cast ewes & rams. Number sold again doubled on the previous year.

The May Day show of spring lambs sponsored by Dectomax was judged by Mr G Riley who made the following awards:-
Pair of Suffolk x Lambs
1st – R A Batty, Redhills £82.50 to R I Brown
2nd – R A Batty, Redhills £75.50 to R I Brown
3rd – Messrs G Sowerby, Terry’s Farm £84 to J F & D Haigh

Pair of Cont x Lambs
1st – J C Bainbridge & Son, Bonnygate £77 to Welsh Country Foods
2nd – Messrs G Sowerby, Terry’s Farm £75.50 to R I Brown
3rd – J C Bainbridge & Son, Bonnygate £89 to J F & D Haigh

Top price per kilo for spring lambs went to J C Bainbridge & Son, Bonnygate whose Beltex x made 197.40p to Welsh Country Foods. In the hogg section Messrs A M & H V Brown, Beechwood House topped at 161.4p, selling to Mr A Atkinson.

Ewes were dearer on the week by £3 per head.
