At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 8th March, Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Primestock.
Prime Cattle – A smaller show of 178 Prime cattle, bulls and cows were forward. Messrs Dinsdale, Highfield run of cattle topped at 187.5p for a Limousin x heifer bought by Pioneer Foods. Messrs Mason, Manor House run of cattle topped at 175.5p for a Bazadaise heifer again to Pioneer Foods. Messrs Stamper & Son, Rose Farm, sold the top priced Limousin bullock weighing 738 kgs at 169.5p - £1250 once again purchased by Pioneer Foods.

Leading bullock price per head: Limousin £1250 Rose Farm, £1225 Greenhills, Bazadaise £1250 Manor Farm, Charolais £1241 Rose Farm.
Prime Bulls – A mixed show of 60 bulls were forward which topped at 168.5p from Mr Wilson, Redding purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson, Messrs Nixon & Sons Ltd, Stotsfold bulls topped at 167.5p and 166.5p sold to Mr Mike Atkinson, and Mr Charles Kirkpatrick.
Leading bull price per kilo: Limousin 168.5 Reddings, 167.5, 166.5, 163.5 Stotsfold, British Blue 159.5 Wallend Farm, Black & White 143.5, 135.5 The Flatt, 138.5, 137.5 Lamplugh Hall, 137.5 Briggle Farm.
Leading bull price per head: British Blue £1395 Wallend, Limousin £1326 Halfway Well, £1272 Elm Tree, Aberdeen Angus £1230 South Farm.
Cast Cows & OTM Cattle – Cows and cast bulls met a great demand with Mr S Illingworth, Howgillside sold a Limousin bull weighing 972kg, 160p £1555.20 to Marcus Pratt. Messrs Ridley, Williamstone sold the top priced Limousin cow for 152.5p bought by Mr Mike Atkinson.

Prime Hoggs:- A plainer show of 1782 hoggs were forward at Carlisle with well fleshed sorts in short supply, however a great average of 194.79ppk was achieved.
Topping the sale at £111.50 was a great run of Texel hoggs from Mr P Wharton, The Snade, Dumfries and purchased by Mr A Dawson. Mr Wharton also had top price per kilo at 281.4 ppk for 35kg hoggs purchased by Mr S Stoddart.
