Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual Christmas Prime Cattle Show & Sale on Tuesday night.
A top quality show of mostly home-bred cattle from local producers were put in front of our judge Mr George Cropper, Accrington.
The show was kindly sponsored by Eden Farm Supplies (Brough), NWF Agriculture, SAI Global, C L & C Steadman (Butchers) & Tethera Veterinary Services Ltd.

Mr Cropper awarded his overall Champion to a very smart 579 kg Lim x Heifer from M/s. G Sowerby, Terrys Farm which sold for £1,708.05 (295 p/kg) and was purchased by M/s. N & J Dowding, Butchers, Appleby.
Taking the Reserve Overall Championship was a 610kg Lim x Heifer form M/s. A D & A Richardson, Low Bank End which sold for £1,860.50 (305p/kg) to M/s. A J & F M Harrison, Grange Hall.

The award for the best beast within 6 miles of Kirkby Stephen Mart was given to a smart British Blue x Heifer from H W & J Birkbeck, Castle Hill. This heifer, weighing in at 537kg sold for £1,449.90 (270p/kg) to M/s. N & J Dowding, Butchers, Appleby.
The overall sale average was 252.20p/kg (£1,432.05)

An entry of 2,532 sheep was forward at Kirkby Stephen Mart on Tuesday night for the Annual Christmas show of Prime lambs & cast ewes with the show sheep being a credit to everyone taking part
The show was kindly sponsored by Solway & Tyne Texel Breeder Club, Dugdale Nutrition and Marr and Macgregor Feeds Ltd.

Judging was in the very capable hands of Mr George Cropper, Accrington, who awarded the Overall Championship to the first prize pen of 5 Beltex x lambs weighing 38kg and selling for £200 (526.30p) with Mr Cropper backing his judgement and successfully purchasing his champion pen
Taking the Reserve Overall Championship was the second prize pen of Beltex lambs weighing 39kg and selling for £120 (330.20p/kg) also to Mr Cropper.
All classes and weights of prime sheep were a flying trade with the overall average being 19p/kg up on the week.
Cast Ewes & Rams were in great demand being much dearer on the week.
