At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 15th August Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of Primestock which included the Anniversary Show. Once again a massive show of 405 prime cattle were forward with vendors being highly delighted with the trade.
Cast Cows & OTM Cattle – A mixed show of 245 cast cows were forward with all well fleshed cows being dearer again. Mr Andy Ryder of Blackhamilton Farm sold a British Blue cow for 832kg 221.5p £1842 bought by West Scottish Lamb. M/s McKelvey of Burnside Farm also sold a British Blue cow for 207.5p and 185.5p bought by Owain Llyr. M/s Henderson & Son of Parkhouse Farm sold a British Blue cow for 191.5p to West Scottish Lamb. Mr Brian Hall of Ainstable Hall run of eight Limousin cross cows averaged 166.2p and topped at 176.5p(x2) purchased by West Scottish Lamb and Mr Owain Llyr, Mr Terry Beattie of Ratlingate Farm sold a Limousin cross cow for 174.5p bought by Pickstocks.

Prime Bulls – A tremendous show of 108 bulls were forward with trade that had never been seen before. Mr Brian Hall of Ainstable Hall run of bulls averaged 827kg 205p £1695 which sold to a top price of 221.5p for a Limousin cross bull bought by Mr Arthur Slack. Mr Mews & Son of Huntershield sold the top priced Charolais bull for 838kg 217.5p £1822 Bought by Mr Arthur Slack. M/s Errington of Beck House sold the top priced British Blue bull for 81kg 208.5p £1753 bought by Cleveland Meats. M/s Bousfield & Sons of Holme Farm also sold a British Blue cross for 207.5p bought by Cleveland Meats. Mr Brian Hall of Ainstable Hall also sold the top overall priced Limousin bull which was 36 months old for 991kg 185.5p £1838 to Mr Arthur Slack.

with M/s Dodd of West View run of outstanding cattle averaged 210.5p
and sold to a top of 214.5p for a Limousin cross heifer bought by Bowland
Foods. M/s Dodd also sold the top priced British Blue cross bullock for
213.5p to Pioneer Foods.

Prime Sheep: The weekly sale of prime sheep incorporated the Annual Anniversary show which was very capably judged by Mr James Thompson. A great show of lambs was presented before him and after much deliberation he awarded the Championship to the first prized winners of the Texel cross section shown by M/s TP Wigham of Hargill House of Coanwood whose 44.5kg lambs went onto make the top price of £102 to Mr Robert Skelton. Reserve went to a fabulous pen of Beltex cross lambs from M/s JS&JO Dodd of West View, Temple Sowerby weighing 40kg they went onto make £96 to the judge on behalf of Jacksons Butchers, Penrith. These were also top ppk at 240ppk.
