A great entry of 1,451 sheep was forward at Kirkby Stephen on Tuesday night, consisting of 987 Prime Hoggs, 246 Cast Ewes & Rams, 211 Ewes & Lambs and 7 Spring Lambs.

The Annual Easter Prime Show for Cattle & Spring Lambs was held and was kindly sponsored by Dugdale Nutrition & The Black Bull Hotel, Nateby.

A fantastic show of both prime cattle & spring lambs was put in front of the capable eye of judge, Mr Geoff Riley, who awarded the title of Champion beast to a very shapely Limousin heifer consigned by regular supporters, H W & J Birkbeck, Castle Hill. She later went on to realise 231p/kg (£1,247.40) and was purchased by N & J Dowding, Butchers, Appleby.

The Champion Spring Lamb was awarded to a wonderful Texel lamb consigned by J C Bainbridge & Sin, Bonnygate, which went on to fetch £130 (324.3p/kg) and was purchased by C L & C Steadman, Butchers, Kirkby Stephen. The total entry of Spring Lambs forward averaged £122.86 (275.02p/kg)

All classes of Prime Hoggs sold to an amazing trade once again with the overall average being up 10p/kg on the week. Topping at £122.80 twice were pens of Beltex hoggs consigned by A P & D Sowerby, The Villa & M T Burney, Wackerfield. Topping at 267.80 p/kg were a tremendous pen of Cheviot hoggs from J Harrison, Wickerfield.

The 246 Cast Ewes & Rams forward were a very strong trade once again being similar on the week.
