primestock /	Annual Open Primestock Show and Sale of British Blue Cattle

At Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 4th April, The Border British Blue Club held their annual show and sale of primestock in conjunction with Harrison and Hetheringtons weekly primestock sale.

Champion

A great show of British Blue cattle came forward to be judged by Mr Owain Llyr. A tremendous show of cows came forward to be judged, with 9 cows selling to average 209p £1683.13. The Champion cow came from Norbreck Genetics of Norbreck Farm which sold for 948kg 242p £2294.16 purchased by Charles Kirkpatrick. Skirwith Hall Farm sold the 2nd placed cow for 832kg 223p £1853.36 purchased by Charles Kirkpatrick. M/s Twentyman of Osborne Farm sold a British Blue cow for 221.5p to Pickstocks. M/s Pattinson of Kinkry Hill sold a British Blue cow for 218.5p to Charles Kirkpatrick. Norbreck Genetics also sold a British Blue cow for 213.5p to Charles Kirkpatrick. Mr Jeff Boocock of Edmonds Farm sold a British Blue cow for 205.5p to Pickstocks. M/s Carruthers of Rawfoot sold the top priced British Blue stock bull for £1079kg 163.5p £1764.17 to Pickstocks.

Owain Llyr judging

A good show of 11 British Blue Bulls came forward for judging with 1st prize going to M/s Carruthers of Rawfoot which sold for 817kg 196.5p £1605.41 bought by Mr Owain Llyr. 2nd place went to Mr David Thompson of High Drybarrows which sold for 673kg 193.5p £1302.26 bought by Mr Bill Howard. 3rd place went to Mr James Retson & Son of Gardrum which sold for 627kg 191.5p £1200.71 to Mr Mike Atkinson. Mr Brain Hall sold the top priced British Blue for 197.5p bought by Charles Kirkpatrick.

M/s Dodd of West View sold the 1st prize British Blue Heifer for 583kg 209.5p £1221.39 to Bowland Foods and from the same home came the 1st prize British Blue bullock which sold for 697kg 189.5p £1320.82 to Pioneer Foods.
