A very good entry of 1,108 sheep were forward at Kirkby Stephen Mart on Tuesday night. A tremendous trade was achieved for all classes of sheep with, once again, an increased ringside of prospective purchasers present.

Our anniversary show for pens of 4 spring lambs was held in which an outstanding show of 24 pens were put out, the show kindly sponsored by Mr Mike Sanderson, NFU, Appleby and Richard Staley Stonework Ltd was placed in the very capable hands of our judge Mr Aaron Kirby from Steadmans, Butchers, Kirkby Stephen, resulting in the overall championship honours going to a pen of 4 fantastic 38.5 kilo Texel lambs consigned by Messrs Bainbridge, Bonnygate, which went on to realise £110 (285.21p per kilo) and sold to Mr A Atkinson, Harrogate.

Champions

The total 389 lambs forward averaged 203.7p per kilo, many meaty, handy weighted lambs regularly achieved over 210p per kilo with smarter sorts fetching 220p-240p per kilo.

Cast ewes and rams were forward and sold to an excellent trade for all classes being dearer on the week.
