CHRISTMAS PRIMESTOCK SHOW & SALE 2007
MONDAY 3rd DECEMBER 2007

Harrison & Hetherington Limited held their annual Christmas Primestock show and sale of cattle and sheep on Monday 3rd December 2007 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle. A large show of 425 prime cattle, bulls and cows were forward with over one hundred out for show.

The pre sale judging was kindly carried out by Mr Steven Wilson (Butcher) Corby Hill who awarded Supreme Champion to a tremendous Limousin cross bullock from JS&JO Dodd of West View which later sold at 510kg 200p £1020 purchased by the judge.

Reserve Champion was awarded to a British Blue cross heifer from WT McMiken of Nether Ernambrie which sold at 635kg 185p £1176.60 purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson Cleveland Meats. Messrs Bell of Far Broom sold the second prize Limousin cross bullock for 210p purchased by Mr Gavin Little, (Butcher) Willow Springs, Penrith.

Messrs Dodd of West View run of six Limousin bullocks and heifers sold to average 167p which topped at 200p purchased by Mr Steven Wilson (Butcher) Corby Hill and 188p for a Limousin heifer purchased by Mr Jim Mullholland (Butcher) Great Orton. Mr Keith Harryman of Keskdale sold a Limousin cross bullock for 182p purchased by Mr Wilcock of Gladdenhey Farm.

A good show of 120 bulls were on offer. Mr Andrew Jefferson of Aspatria Hall sold the top priced 2nd prize Charolais bull for 160.5p purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson Cleveland Meats. Messrs Maw of Wintershields sold the top priced Belgian Blue cross bull for 157.5p purchased by Mr Alan Jones. Mr Brough of Old Rectory sold a Limousin cross bull for 145.5p purchased by Mr Geoff Harrington. Mr James Pickles & Son of Rayne Farm sold a Belgian Blue bull 143.5p purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson. Messrs Bell of Farbroom sold the top overall priced Belgian Blue bull for 861kg 129.5p £1115 purchased by Mr Mike Atkinson.

Cast Cows
The sale included the Christamas show of Prime cows this was judged by Mr Steven Wilson (Butcher) Corby Hill who awarded First prize to a Belgian blue cow consigned by Alan Twentyman of Osborne Farm this made the top price per kilo 109.5p £807.02. the top overall price was £1087 this was terrific Charolais cow from DA Holliday of The Junipers, Kirkbampton. The trade in general did not reach the heights of previous weeks however 15% of the sale made over £700 the sale averaged 62p per kilo.

Prime Sheep – RECORD PRICE OF £175 AT BORDERWAY MART

2806 prime sheep were forward for the annual Christmas show and sale. On the whole the sheep were much better trade with 38kg to 44kg lambs making mostly round a pound a kilo mark. Mule lambs were all around the 85p mark. An overall sale average of 93.63p is the best trade seen for months.

Yet another very popular Christmas show of sheep saw fifty two pens of lambs were forward for judging. This year's judge John Blacklock (on behalf of RJ Harrison, Wigton) cast a keen eye over another fantastic show of lambs.

The overall Champion was awarded to John and Joanne Hall of Inglewood Edge, Dalston whose outstanding Rouge cross lambs went to make a record price for Borderway of £175 - 339p purchased by The Balmoral Hotel, High Street Moffat, Dumfriesshire.

The annual primestock show and sale incorporated a fatstock show on behalf of the The Border Charolais club on Monday 3rd December within Borderway Mart, Carlisle.
