Wednesday 5th December 2007 At Broughton Mart on Wednesday 5th December 2007 Harrison & Hetherington Limited held their annual Christmas Primestock show and sale where they had forward a marvelous show of 61 prime cattle, bulls, cows and 504 prime sheep. A truly outstanding show of prime cattle were presented to the pre sale judge Mr Mick Etherington from Keighley. Overall Championship was awarded to a very smart Limousin cross steer consigned by Mr Mark Towers of Colt Park, Ulverston later going on to sell for 208p per kilo purchased per kilo purchased by Pattons Butchers, Wellington Street, Millom. Reserve Champion went to a tremendous Limousin cross heifer shown by R&C Benson of Gamswell Farm, Ulverston later selling for 192p also purchased by Pattons Butchers Millom. This is the second consecutive year that Messrs Pattons of Millom have purchased the Champion and Reserve animal it this event. On the whole the cattle trade was fantastic and the quality on offer received the price it deserved with the fifty one clean cattle forward for sale averaging 145.86p per kilo. In the sheep section the judge Mr Etherington awarded the Championship to a pen of quality Texel lambs consigned by Mr T Sharp of High Hyton Farm, Bootle later selling for £56.50 (127p per kilo) purchased by the judge. Sheep trade was in line with the current market with Continental type lambs making 80p to 90p depending on the quality and weight. Swaledale, Herdwick and Mule lambs making 70p to 83p.
