Despite the difficult times facing agriculture
the H&H Group
returned a profit on its year end figures in the summer. With the
exception of the Group’s farmstock and auction
house companies, all other subsidiaries increased turnover and
profits with the result of a profit for the Group of £644,000.

John Dixon - livestock was his life
While he was born and lived all his 92 years in
the city, John Dixon was every inch the livestock man. Livestock
was the focus of his life when he managed Harrison & Hetherington's
Earl Street mart in Carlisle and satellite sales centres which
included Roadhead, Haltwhistle and Newcastleton.

Recycling
As a result of impending legislation to stop the burial or burning
of farm plastic, Harrison & Hetherington has worked with
Solway Recycling to secure special discounts for its customers.

Farmers from across north Cumbria attended a safety and health
awareness day at Borderway Mart in October. The Health and Safety
Executive in the north west of England stage several of these events
annually to highlight the dangers in an effort to cut farm accidents.
