Alan Bowe, chairman of the H&H group, was elected president of the Cumberland Agricultural Society for 2007 at the annual meeting in February. Mr Bowe, has been a local land agent throughout his career, setting up his own business in Carlisle, which is now H&H Bowe. He has been a strong supporter of the Cumberland County Show for many years. The AGM was chaired by outgoing President Alan Coulthard. He thanked the Society for having him as President, which had been such a rewarding experience. Secretary, Mrs Donella Rozario, reported that the show had an extremely successful year with attendance increased again. It had been an honour to host the National Charolais Show, with such a high standard of entries, and also to hold Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling centenary events. The number and standard of entries had been high for all sections of the show, and the agricultural trade area extremely well supported. The treasurer, Brian Davidson, presented the annual accounts where a healthy surplus of income over expenditure was shown. The treasurer congratulated everyone on the hard work that has generated a successful show. Retiring council members were re-elected, and one new member elected. At a meeting of the Society’s Council, following the AGM, Mr Alan Irving, of Toppin Castle, was elected as chairman for the next two years. It was reported that the 2006 show had enabled Eden Valley Hospice to raise almost £30,000 for their own projects, and other charities, by hosting their event free of charge during the day on the showground. The Society is looking forward to another successful show on July 21. | |||||||||||
