Dog day delight

Crowds gathered for the inaugural spring sale of working and unbroken sheep dogs and puppies at Lazonby Mart on May 11th 2005.

Topping the entry of 29 dogs at 1,500gns was Star, an 18 month old registered dog from Jean Howes, of Wolsingham, County Durham, which had been placed in nursery trials and was bought by Messrs Linton, of Biggar.

Dennis Walton, of Kirkby Stephen, ran Highfield Craig, whose grand and great grand sires were both international champions. This dog handled his sheep well to attract the eye of Brian Bowness, Crosby Ravensworth, Cumbria with a successful bid of 1,350 gns.

Messrs T S Brass, Appleby, Cumbria brought forward Fred, a young unregistered dog used to working both sheep & cattle & he was knocked down at 950 gns to Mrs S Makepeace, Slaggyford, Cumbria.

Leading the unbroken dog section at 500 gns was Wisp, a registered 11 month dog from Mr D Bowner, Catterick.

Working dogs averaged £752.52 with unbroken dogs and puppies at £110.77.
