Stockman John hangs up his cap

A familiar face at Borderway Mart for the last 13 years, John Barrett retires as stockman on July 21.

John was farming before he joined the Harrison & Hetherington yard staff team.

Since joining the company he has mainly worked on special and pedigree cattle sales. Said John: “They are good lads to work with - but you get no sympathy from them!”

John, 65, who lives five minutes’ walk from Borderway, plans to visit the mart on his retirement.

He is also considering taking up bowling and fishing in his new-found spare time.
