Heather focuses on pedigree beef and sheep sales

Harrison & Hetherington's pedigree office manager Heather Pritchard will use her wealth of experience to concentrate on pedigree beef and sheep sales in her new additional position as marketing manager.

Heather has developed many contacts countrywide among pedigree beef and sheep breeders during the 23 years she has been with Harrison & Hetherington.

From her first job as office junior dealing mainly with catalogued commercial sales, she then became heavily involved in pedigree beef sales in particular after 1989 when H&H gained many of the national society sales.

Harrison & Hetherington's reputation led to the great development in pedigree sheep sales.
"We already hold sales for a large percentage of the national breed societies throughout the country - but I will be more than pleased to talk to the societies, or individual breeders, we don't already conduct sales for," said, Heather, who will continue to manage the running of the pedigree department.

"We can conduct sales anywhere in the country, not just at our main pedigree centres at Borderway, Carlisle and at Bristol. I believe there is a lot of scope for pedigree beef and sheep sales through H&H. There is still much work to do with re-stocking, not only in the north of England but other areas of the country."

Heather is keen to encourage the market system for pedigree beef and sheep sales.
"I'm a strong believer that we need a market system to determine the price of pedigree livestock," she said.She also believes it is important to meet customers face to face and she hopes that in her new role she will be able to discuss their marketing needs first hand.

A dairy farmer's daughter from Dumfriesshire, she has a personal interest in all aspects of livestock. She was actively involved with showing cattle from the family farm and she has continued her farming interests outside work both with young farmers and with the Holstein Young Breeders movement, of which she is currently co-ordinator for the Border and Lakeland Club.
