PRIZE SHOW & SALE OF SUCKLED CALVES
SATURDAY 24th SEPTEMBER 2005

At Borderway Mart on Saturday 24th September 2005, Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual Autumn Show & Sale of suckled calves. A massive entry of 1765 bullocks and heifers were forward and a quality show was presented to a large ringside of buyers. Trade was tremendous and considering the recent beef trade prices were far beyond vendors expectations. Averages were only slightly down on the year.

The show was judged by Mr M Hallam of Meadowhurst, Ashbourne who awarded the Champion Prize to Mr FA Waugh, Kilnstown for a Limousin cross Heifer which later sold for £1400 and was purchased by the Judge. This black heifer, an April born calf was sired by the registered bull Burndale Stewart and bred out of a Belgian Blue cross Blue Grey mother. She was shown by the younger generation of the Waugh family, namely Robert and Douglas.

The Reserve Champion was shown by Mr P Richardson, of Sandhills which made £900 and purchased by Mr S E Sellers, Green Top, Kilburn. Top price of the day was £2700 for a Limousin cross Heifer from R & M Scott, Thirlwall Castle purchased by A Padfield, Brambles Green Lane, Norfolk.
