Anniversary “FAIR DAY” show and sale of 1200 STORE CATTLE Tuesday 26th April 2005 Sponsor – W Johnstone Haulage Contractors, Eaglesfield LOCKERBIE CHAMPION MAKES £850 At Lockerbie Market on Tuesday Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual Fair Day Show and Sale when they sold 1051 a record number for this centre. Buyers were plentiful with several fresh faces attending and a large proportion of the cattle were purchased to go into the feeding strongholds of the North East of Scotland and England. At the pre sale show sponsored by Messrs W Johnstone, The Garage, Eaglesfield the judge Mr Hugh Dunlop from Holehouse, Ochiltree awarded the championship to local breeders Tony and Scott Dempster, Castlehill who came up trumps with a Black Limousin Bullock which scaled 430 kilos and sold at £850 (198 pence per kilo) to Farmtec UK, Coat House, Goole, Nr Hull. The Reserve Champion was a seven month old Belgian Blue consigned by Mr R.M. Johnstone, Easterton, Crawford which scaled 298 kilos and sold at £620 (208 pence) also to Farmtec. The first prize for a pen of 8 went to Messrs J.M. Wharton & Son, Snade Farm, Dunscore for a superb pen of Limousins which weighed 415 kilos and sold for £565 to Mr J Reid, Bengal Farm. Outwith the show cattle of all classes were a flyer and in several cases dearer than last year. Topping the sale were Messrs J.S. Goldie, Skipmyre with a pen of Charolais Bullocks which sold at £780. The top price per kilo for bullocks of 180 pence went to Messrs Dempster, Castlehill for a pen of Limousin Crosses. Heifers met the dearest trade for some years selling to £630 for a 484 kilo Belgian Blue x from Messrs A.J. McGregor, Relief. Limousin Crosses from Mr J Goldie, Skipmyre weighed 249 kilos and sold for £390 ( 157 pence per kilo).
