A superb entry of 824
head of Suckled Calves were sold at Lockerbie annual show and sale on
Friday 22nd October 2004, with a packed ringside of
buyer in attendance resulting in averages being up despite the impending
loss of subsidy on cattle next year.

At the pre show the judge Mr A Ingram, Huntly awarded the Championship
to a 6 month old Charolais Bullock from M/s A & T Hall, Dinwoodie
Mains which scaled 320kg and sold at 213ppk or £680 to Mr Ingram.
The reserve also went to M/s Hall, Dinwoodie Mains who consistently brought
out the top show calves with a 6month old Belgian Blue Heifer which scaled
320kg and sold at £520 or 163ppk to Mr A Williams, Wales.
Other prize winners included M/s G & W Halliday, Crawthat who once
again showed what good stockmen they are by bringing out the 1st and
2nd prize Limousin which was by far the strongest Class. 1st Prize was
a 15month old Limousin Bullock which sold at £650 to Mr J Reid,
Bengal with the second prize being a Black Heifer which scaled 410kg
and sold at £560 or 137ppk to Mr Robin Spence, Roberthill.
Out with the show all classes were very keenly sought selling to £650
for a Belgian Blue cross bullock from M/s G & W Halliday, Crawthat.
Top price per kilo went to Mr J McTurk, Glenshimmerock, Dalry, Castle
Douglas with 12 Charolais Bullocks scaling 215kng and selling at 184ppk
or £395. This was followed at 179ppk for Charolais from Gillesbie
Farms, with Terrona selling Limousins at 178ppk with Hunthills Limousins
selling at 177ppk. Heifers sold to £470 for Limousin from M/s C
J Porteous & Son, Penlaw and to 125ppk for 7 Charolais from M/s DF & RE
Grant, Burrance of Courance with Gillesbie Farms selling 7 Charolais
at 124ppk.
