PRIZE SHOW & SALE OF SUCKLED CALVES
SATURDAY 25th SEPTEMBER 2004

Champions
Ilona and Bill Thompson, of Nether Glasslaw, Newpitsligo, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, with the champion and reserve The champion, on the right, is a January born steer by a pedigree Belgian Blue bull Avon Blues O-Polo out of a Charolais cow. The reserve champion is a January-born heifer by the same Belgian Blue sire out of a Belgian Blue cross Limousin heifer.

At Borderway on Saturday 25th September 2004 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual sale of suckled calves. A good entry of 1533 bullocks and heifers were forward. The cattle came out in tremendous condition considering the recent unsettled weather and were presented to a massive ring of bidders.

Trade was fantastic and averages were up on the year which considering that there will be changes to subsidies next year is quite amazing.

The pre sale show was judged by Mr Henry Sutton of Filey and he awarded the overall championship to Messrs Thompson, Nether Glasslaw, Aberdeen, whose Belgian Blue steer later sold for £820 to Les Bainbridge, Seamer.

Reserve Champion also went to Messrs Thompson, Aberdeen and their Belgian heifer which went on to sell for £860 to Messrs Hall, Darlington.

The top price of the day was £2,400 for a tremendous Limousin x heifer from Messrs Scott, Thirlwall Castle purchased by Messrs Padfield, Great Yarmouth.
