CARLISLE ANNIVERSARY STORE CATTLE SALE
Wednesday 25th August 2004
On Wednesday 25th August 2004, Harrison & Hetherington Limited,
Carlisle held their Anniversary show and sale of store cattle which was
very kindly
sponsored by Burnett’s (Solicitors).
A massive entry of nearly
2,000 head was forward and trade was very dear with smart heifers untouchable.
At the conclusion of the sale an unbelievable 105 different buyers had
purchased cattle from as far a field as Cornwall, Leicester up to Aberdeen
and Inverness.

| Mark Batty, age 14, of Flimby Hall Farm, Maryport,
with the pedigree Belgian Blue sired heifer out of a Limousin cross
cow which took the championship. Mark has been exhibiting the animal
at summer shows for his father Norman and uncle Alf who farm at Flimby
Hall. |

| Reserve championship went to a 15
month old pedigree Limousin-sired heifer
out of a Belgian Blue cow shown by Len Skelton, of Low House, Dearham,
Maryport. |
Mr Ian Marsden of Sheffield very ably carried out the pre-sale judging.
Championship rosette was awarded to a Belgian Blue cross heifer from
Messrs Batty of Flimby Hall, Maryport which later sold for £820
to the judge Mr Marsden.
The Reserve Champion ticket was presented to
Mr Len Skelton of Low House Farm, Dearham Maryport for his first prize
Limousin cross heifer. She sold for £800 to Mr JM Townsend of Colne.
Topping the sale at £940 was a very stylish Belgian Blue cross
heifer from the same stable as the Champion. Consigned by Mrs M Batty
of Flimby Hall, the
heifer was knocked down to Mr J Trenholme of Little Thirkley, North Yorkshire.
