BORDERWAY CONTINENTAL STORE CATTLE SHOW & SALE
FRIDAY & SATURDAY 26th & 27th SEPTEMBER 2003

On Friday 26th Saturday 27th September 2003 at Borderway Mart, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their noted two day sale of suckled calves.

A spectacular entry of 2176 quality cattle were presented with 1268 bullocks and 908 heifers, over the two days.

Steer champion and Reserve from Messrs Scott, of Thirlwall Castle. Pictured, left to right, are show sponsor Colin Lindsay, of Capon Tree vets in Brampton, David Scott, Robert Scott and the judge, Neil Slack, of Plum Tree, Newby, Penrith.

Fridays sale attracted 1268 bullocks arousing an outstanding interest, with a packed sale ring of buyers from UK wide. The pre sale show was judged by Mr Neil Slack, Newby who awarded the champion rosette to Messrs Scott of Thirlwall Castle, Greenhead for their Limousin cross bullock which later sold for £2200. Messrs Scott also sold other high priced bullocks for £1400 & £1350.

Trade overall was marvellous with customers for every class of cattle, an overall average of £571.69 (+£29.76 on 2002) for 1268 was attained.

Saturdays sale saw a mixed show of 908 heifers where quality sorts meet a strong demand, with six heifers making £1000 or more. The show was judged by Mr Les Bainbridge, Seamer who did a wonderful job in awarding the championship to Messrs Thompson of Nether Glasslaw, Aberdeen, whose Blonde cross heifer fetched £2100. An overall average of £471.80 (+60p on 2002) was very satisfying.
