MIDDLETON IN TEESDALE PRIZE SHOW AND SALE OF SUCKLED CALVES

On Tuesday 11th November 2003, Harrison & Hetherington Middleton In Teesdale held their annual prize show & sale of 1315 suckled calves.

As usual the sale attracted great interest with purchasers present from most English counties, Wales and Scotland. The overall average levelled at £449.87 (+£36.29 from 2002). The show sponsored by Carrs Billington Agriculture and Barclays Bank Plc was judged by Mr G Burrows, Malham.

PRIZE LIST
Class 1 Limousin bullocks: 1st and winner of the Pikestone Rose Bowl for the champion Limousin x and the Nat West Cup for the champion bullock JC & J White, Rigg Farm £1800 to Mr S Hough, 2nd JC & J White, Rigg Farm £750 Mr S Hough.

Class 2 Limousin heifers: 1st JC & J White, Rigg Farm £750 to Messrs CR Raine & Sons, 2nd MC & J Dent, Wythes Hill £850 to Messrs CR Raine & Sons.

Class 3 Belgian Blue bullocks: 1st JC & J White, Rigg Farm £650 to Mr S Hough, 2nd L Guy & Son, Home Farm £585 to J Dent & Son.

Class 4 Belgian Blue heifers: 1st and winner of the Nat West Cup for the champion heifer and Silver cup for Overall champion, JC & J White, Rigg Farm £820 to Messrs Cooper, 2nd JC & J White, Rigg Farm £660 to Mr Murray

Class 5 Bullock any other breed: 1st JW Dent & Son, Naby View (Charolais) £680 to Mr A Richardson, 2nd J & MJ Walton, West Shotton Farm £620 to Mr S Hough.

Class 6 Heifer any other breed: 1st JW Dent & Son, Naby View (Charolais) £450 to Messrs Cooper, 2nd R Williamson, Littleburn £465 to Mr Murray.

The Yorkshire & North Eastern Charolais Club in conjunction with Dectomax donated a prize valued at £100 for the highest priced pen of four cattle bred by a Charolais bull, which went to JW Dent & Son, Naby View for a pen of bullocks purchased by Mr A Jenkinson for £605.
