Lockerbie Market sold 394 Store and Breeding Cattle at its show and sale on Tuesday 18th March 2003.

Overall Champion

The Champion went to a Limousin cross Bullock at 12 months on the blue form Mr W Ewart, Belridding, scaling 460kg and selling at £610 to the judge Mr Robin Spence, Roberthill. The Reserve Champion went to Messrs D & R Cornthwaite, Balgray Hill, with a Limousin Heifer scaling 420kg and selling at £532 or 127ppk to Mr W Purdon, Strathaven House, Carluke.

Outwith the show cattle, bullocks sold to £770 for a Belgian Blue from Messrs W Nelson & Sons, Longrigg, Torthorwald. Top price per kilo went to Mr John Barker, Capplegill, Moffat with a pen of 6 Simmentals which sold at 163ppk.

Heifers were a flyer and sold dearer on the previous sale. Top price per kilo went o Mr RLG Taylor, Dryfesdalegate with a pen of 4 Belgian Blue heifers which sold at 122p per kilo and to a top of £580 (515Kg) for a pen of Limousin from Messrs A & E Park, Harleyrigg, Kirkmahoe.

Young Bulls sold to £535 for a pen of Limousin from Mrs Scott, Copewood. Breeding Cattle were dear selling to £680 for a Limousin Heifer & Heifer calf from Mr Ritchie, Middlebiehill.
