At the annual sale of hill suckled calves at Lockerbie on Friday 24th October 2003, a large attendance of regular and several buyers attending for the first time resulted in a super trade.

The 377 bullocks averaged 130.87p per kilo or £498.01 (up £22.41 per head on year). The 385 heifers averaged 104.3p per kilo or £340.87 (up £42.22 per head on year). The 24 bulls averaged 140p per kilo or £414.80.

At the show the judge Mr N Bell, Hoddamtown awarded the Championship to Mr P Wharton, Snade, Dunscore with a 10 month old Limousin bullock on the blue which sold at £620. The reserve championship went to M/s G & W Halliday, Crawthat with a Limousin bullock which sold at £645.

Top price per kilo for bullock calf went to Gillesbie Farms with 5 Charolais bullocks which sold at 186p per kilo, this was followed at 185p per kilo for 8 Charolais bullocks from M/s Grant, Burrance of Courance, with M/s Paterson, Terrona selling 8 Limousins at 184p per kilo.

Heifers sold to 127p per kilo for 9 Charolais heifers from Gillesbie Farms with M/s Halliday, Crawthat selling Limousins at 125p per kilo with Gillesbie Farms also selling 20 Charolais at 121p per kilo.

Young bulls sold to 148p per kilo for Limousins from Mr R W Nairn, Sheildhill, Lochmaben.
