Suckled Calves
On Wednesday 30th October 2002, Harrison & Hetherington, held the second day of their annual sale of Blue Grey, Galloway and Continental bullocks and heifers suckled calves at Newcastleton Mart, when they presented an entry of 450 head.
With a travelled and regular ringside of buyers present, bidding was brisk resulting in the trade being very competitive and pleasing to all vendors.
Particular attention was being paid to the subsidy status of all cattle. Spring born heifers also sold well.
Leading prices (all crosses):- Limousin bullocks £520 Kershopefoot, £485 & £470 10 Douglas Square, £475 & £470 Hermitage. Limousin heifers £430 Kershopefoot, £345, £340 & £320 Douglas Square, £330 Leahaugh.
Blue Grey bullocks £500 & £455 Hole o Lyne, £450 Briery Hill, £450 Dodgsonstown, £425 The Bloch, £418 Dykecrofts.
Galloway bullocks £465 & £405 Peela Hill, £435 Dodgsonstown, £420 & £358 The Row. Galloway bulls £220 The Roan.
