store cattle / SALE REPORT

BORDERWAY ANNIVERSARY STORE CATTLE
WEDNESDAY 28th AUGUST 2002

On Wednesday 28th August 2002, Harrison & Hetherington conducted the 27th Anniversary Show and Sale of Store cattle and Suckled calves.

Store Cattle ChampionA huge catalogued entry of over 1800 cattle were forward for sale, with the pre sale judging being most ably carried out by regular supporter Mr R Richmond of Leeds.

After much deliberation the Championship was awarded to a superb Limousin Cross steer consigned by Messrs Scott of Thirlwell Castle, the steer later realised £750 to Mr T Scott, Linlithgow. Standing in reserve was a Belgian Blue Cross heifer consigned by Mr E & M Townley & Son, Nutta Farm, Clapham, which realised £800 to regular purchaser Mr M Townsend.

The top price of the day was £820 to Messrs Scott who as usual presented a superb pen of cattle. The quality throughout the day was exceptional as both regular and new vendors presented their cattle in immaculate condition. The trade throughout was good however claimable steers were particularly sought after whilst younger cattle were slightly harder to cash. The trade remained firm right into the early evening as several of the top prices were realized as the sale drew to a close.
