DISPERSAL
SALE ON BEHALF OF MR & MRS CKM STEWART
OF RARE BREEDS OF CATTLE, SHEEP AND GEESE
SATURDAY 20th NOVEMBER 2004
The 'Breachacha' prefix has been
well known by Rare and Minority breeds enthusiasts for a very long
time. Established on the Isle of Coll,
twelve miles west of Mull by Mr Kenneth Stewart and latterly farmed
near Peebles. The remaining Cattle and Sheep were sold in Borderway Mart,
Carlisle
on Saturday 20th November as a result of Mr Stewart's recent
ill health.
As expected a large crowd of pedigree and commercial breeders turned
out to ensure not only a very good trade but also and of equal importance,
that the animals were well dispersed into keen breeders hands who will
continue to develop these useful bloodlines. Trade for cattle was somewhat
selective because of there being several older or unregistered animals,
Even so top price of £750 for a Belted Welsh cow and calf with others
at £680 and several over £600 reflected serious interest
from a widely drawn clientele of buyers.
The sheep without exception were very keenly bid for, eight of the
eighteen Kerry Hills made over £200 to a top of £300 for a senior ram,
with shearling gimmers twice over £270 and older ewes at £200.
Norfolk horn ewes averaged £50 and the Torwen ewes topping at £150,
with several over £100 were in huge demand. The same was for the
rare Galway breed. Eleven were forward of which eight made between £110
and £180, with several of the best going to Leicestershire. Whitefaced
Woodland females averaged £85 with late born Lleyn ewe lambs all
making between £40 and £50.
