Quality was the essence as Texel in-lamb females were bid to 1,500gns twice at the Texel Sheep Society and Solway & Tyne Texel Breeders Club show and sale on Friday 9th December 2005 at Borderway Mart.
Both leading prices came from the first exhibitor into the sale ring, John Forsyth of the Glenside flock based at Maybole, Ayrshire with a pair of shearling gimmers. The first was a February born group 2 Loosebeare Imp sired daughter out of a Glenside His Nibs bred mother.
The second entry was a substitute which was withdrawn from the ring but sold later also at 1,500gns. The successfully purchaser of both sheep was Winter Bros Farmers Ltd, of Clickham Farm, Appleby-in-Westmorland.
The next top price was 700gns which came from the Stainton flock of local breeder Peter Woof of Storth End Farm, Kendal. This May born gimmer. A daughter of Stainton Inherit and coming from an Annan bred mother, she sold in lamb to 10,000gn ram Skiddaw Lion. She went to RE & DR Jones of Cefncaerferch, Pwllheli. Following next at 620gns was the first entry into the ring again from Glenside flock of John Forsyth. A group one geno gimmer sired by the 120,000gn ram Loosebeare Imp and bred from a Muiresk mother, she was knocked down to Winter Bros Farmers. Averages – 15 ewes £446.33, 39 shearling gimmers £279.48. Judge – Mr Stuart Currie, Beautry House, Rathmell, Settle, N.Yorkshire. |
