Milnbank Shines at Christmas Star Sale

(Lot 141) the Milnbank February 03 born Texel ewe AId to Tophill Joe which made the top price of 8,500gns

Mrs Margaret Lyons’s Milnbank Texel Flock from Ardmiddle, Aberdeenshire, shined at the Christmas Star Texel In Lamb Female Sale taking the top two prices and best average selling 15 lots to level at £2,034.

Top call in the Milnbank pen was 8,500gns for a Shearling gimmer sired by the noted Craighead Hercules, this former record priced ram at 50,000gns has to date sired sons to 32,000gns and daughters to 10,000gns. Her dam an Annan bred ewe was purchased at 2,200gns, the gimmer sold in lamb to the present record priced ram Tophill Joe 122,000gns. Signing the cheque to secure her was Jimmy Douglas, Woodhead of Cairness, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. Next at 6,500gns was another Hercules daughter, this time out of a Glenside Gurka ewe and sold in lamb again to Tophill Joe. Edward Pugh, Glanllyn Farm, Llanuwchllyn, Bala, Gwynedd, North Wales was the purchaser.

(Lot134) the February 03-born Milnbank Texel ewe, AId to Tophill Joe, which sold for 6,500gns

Sandy Lee’s Fordafourie Flock from Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire provided the next top price at 6,000gns as with the Milnbank toppers, she was by Hercules and in lamb to Tophill Joe and she also appeared on Jimmy Douglas’s shopping list.

Next in the price list at 5,200gns came the Castlecairn Flock from N & B Renwick, Legars, Kelso selling another Hercules sired daughter this time in lamb to Baltier Kracker. Kracker was purchased jointly cost 34,000gns and is sired by Tophill Joe. Robert Forsyth, Baltier, Whithorn was the purchaser.

3,700 gns was next in the price list again from Castlecairn this time the gimmer was by Muiresk Forever and sold in lamb to Kracker and was knocked down to R H Ireland, Heys Farm, Dean Lane, Whalley, Blackburn.

(Lot 148) the Fordafourie February 03 born Texel ewe AId to Tophill Joe which sold for 6,000gns

The last gimmer in the sale from Castlecairn was next at 3,200gns. She was sired by Hercules and sold in lamb to Ettrick Jackpot. Willie Knox from Mid Haddo, Fyvie, Turriff, Aberdeenshire was the purchaser. Castlecairn also provided the second top average selling 22 lots levelling at £1799.33.
