TWO DAY IN LAMB TEXEL FEMALE SALE CENTRE RECORDS TUMBLE
Harrison & Hetherington Limited, Carlisle held a two day Texel sale of in-lamb
females featuring eight flocks. Halbeath, Alwent, Callerton and Copeland on the
first day with Fordafourie, Castlecairn, Goldies and Milnbank on the second day.
A packed ringside on both days saw prices achieved exceeding vendors expectations.
The Halbeath flock of Nancy and Caroline Orr, Halbeath Farm Ltd, Dunfermline
opened the batting on the first day, topping their consignment at 800gns was
an Annan Extra Special daughter selling in lamb to Haltcliffe Jackpot a 16,000gn
joint purchase stock ram. The gimmer being purchased by G Gray of Sunnycroft,
Lindean, Selkirk.
Top price of the first days trading at 2,600gns came from the Alwent flock of
Messrs T Nesbitt & Son, Alwent Hall, Winston, Darlington, Co.Durham. A Turin
Hardy daughter sold in lamb to Hillhead Image was knocked down to S Richardson
of Mount Pleasant Farm, Barnsley.
Messrs G Wilkinson of Arkleby House, Aspatria paid 2,200gns to secure another
Hardy daughter, but this time being in lamb to Arkle Jaguar, the new stock ram
at Alwent, a joint purchase at 26,000gns. Also from the Alwent flock was another
Hardy daughter which sold for 2,000gns. She was in lamb to Haltcliffe Jackpot
and was knocked down to JA Swan of Teanahaun Croft, Dingwall.
Next in the sale catalogue was the Callerton flock of Ronnie and Malcolm Sym
based at East Town Farm, Milbourne. 1,600gns was their leading price tag for
a Callerton Hi-flyer gimmer in lamb to North Quarter Jewel. Mr F Murray of East
Horton, Wooler was the successful buyer.
DA Thompson of Trewhitt Steads, Morpeth paid 850gns to secure another Hi-flyer
daughter this time in lamb to Callerton Jaguar.
Mrs Jane West’s Copeland flock came next from Checkereazes Farm, West Auckland.
Top price was 650gns for a gimmer in lamb to Alwent Informal.

Copeland Flock:8 shearling gimmers £413.33, 8 pure-bred shearling gimmers £364.88.
Opening the second days trading was Sandy Lee with his Fordafourie flock from
Fraserburgh, Aberdeen. A 2000 born Claybury Falcon sired ewe in lamb to the record
price ram Tophill Joe (122,000gns), sold at 1,600gns to A Ewing of Drumbretton
Farm, Annan.
Next came a 2001 born ewe by Seneirl George, again she sold in lamb to Tophill
Joe, the purchaser this time was Matthew Stockdale of Home Farm, Dearham, Maryport
for 1,200gns.
At the same price of 1,200gns was a Crookholm Golden Miller daughter, and was
bought by SF Chaplin, of Hilltop Lane, Chaldon, Surrey.
The next flock to feature was Castlecairn from N& B Renwick of Legars, Kelso.
The fourth lot in their consignment was the much talked about 2003 Royal Highland
show champion. This outstanding Craighead Hercules daughter sold in lamb to the
22,000gn Watchknowe Jimmy’s Pride. After some spirited bidding she was
knocked down at 11,000gns setting a new centre record for Texel females at Carlisle.
Signing the cheque was Messrs J Innes & sons of Dunscroft, Huntly, Aberdeen.
A full triplet sister to the 11,000gn sale sold at 5,000gns to M R Ireland, Heys
Farm, Dean Lane, Whalley, Clitheroe. She also sold in lamb to Jimmy’s Pride.
At 4,500gns came another Hercules daughter and again in lamb to Jimmy’s
Pride. Edward Pugh of Glanllyn, Bala, Gwynedd was the purchaser.
The Goldies flock came next from JK Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries. 2000gns
was the top in this consignment three times over. Two Turin Hardy daughters and
one Milnbank Episode daughter all in lamb to Haltcliffe Jackpot were bought by
a telephone bidder who wished their name not to be disclosed.
Messrs Walker of Cornsay House, Cornsay, Durham paid 1,700gns to secure an Episode
daughter in lamb to Jackpot.
Mrs M Lyon of Milnbank, Ardmiddle, Aberdeen featured next with her Milnbank flock.
Her second entry in the sale ring created great interest. This very smart Craighead
Hercules daughter in lamb to the 122,000gn record breaker Tophill Joe was knocked
down just short of the Castlecairn gimmer’s price tag at 10,000gns. Her
new owners being a joint purchase by JP Forsyth of Glenside, Maybole and Messrs
A Douglas & Sons, of Woodhead, Cairness, Freaserburgh.
Another Hercules daughter again in lamb to Joe sold at 2,000gns to M Dent of
Mowbray House, Frosterley, Bishop Auckland.
