CALLERTON, ALWENT & COPELAND
PEDIGREE TEXELS Texel in lamb females were in demand at Borderway on Friday 29th November 2002. First consignor in the ring was the Callerton flock of Ronnie & Malcolm Sym of East Town Farm, Milbourne, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Early in the sale produced the days top price of 4,000gns for a shearling gimmer. She was by the home bred ram Callerton Eriskay and out of a Callerton Clyde bred daughter and sold in lamb to Milnbank Icebreaker, a son of the 50,000gn Craighead Hercules. Signing the cheque was Lain Daff of Greenside Cottage, Uplawmoor, Renfrewshire. Next price tag was 1,800gns for another Eriskay daughter, this time out of a Halbeath Campese ewe and in lamb to Clougher Import. She travels south to her new home with Marshall Farms Ltd of Lower North Quarme, Minehead, Somerset. The Alwent flock of Dougie Nesbit and Sons, Steven and David, from Alwent Hall, Darlington matched the 1,800gns price tag twice. The first lot was a Milnbank Episode sired gimmer, out of a Courthill Valais ewe. She sold in lamb to the 4,000gn Turin Hardy ram. Paying the price was JJ Kingan of Laneside Farm, Troquheer, Dumfries. Ballynahone Gigolo was the sire of the other 1,800gn female. She sold in lamb to the 6,200gn Milnbank Episode. Messrs Skidmore of North Hanging Wells, Eastgate, Bishop Auckland was the purchaser. Two gimmers hit the 1,600gn mark for Alwent. The first entry by Gigolo and in lamb to Episode went to Messrs Kingan again from Troqueer; and the other entry a daughter of Blackstown Fisherman and out of a Episode ewe and selling in lamb to Hillhead Image, was purchased by Mr JW Irving of 6 Stone House, Gretna. The Copeland flock dispersal for Mrs Jane West of Checkereazes arm, West Auckland topped at 1,000gns for a Milnbank Episode sired gimmer and sold in lamb to Alwent Heavyweight, she joins Marshall Farms Ltd of Somerset. Averages - Callerton flock 38 shearling gimmers £585.51, Alwent flock 48 shearling gimemrs £813.97, Copeland flock 12 ewes £324.62, 8 shearling gimmers £472.50, 10 pure bred females £268.80. |
