LATE AUTUMN SALE OF TEXEL SHEEP Harrison & Hetherington conducted the annual late autumn show and sale on behalf of the Solway & Tyne Texel Breeders Club.
The pre sale judging was most ably carried out by Mr Hamish Currie and after much deliberation he awarded the male championship to Messrs KD & DE Millar of Crookholm for a very correct ram lamb which sold for 1,100gns to Mr Oliver from Gwynedd. Top price in the ram lamb section was 1,700gns for a stylish sheep consigned by Messrs Knox of Mid Haddo whilst signing the cheque was Mr A Brown of Stonefieldhill. Topping the shearling prices was an exceptional pen of rams from the Alwent flock with a lead price of 2,000gns for Alwent Heavyweight which sold to Seagraves Ltd of Co Durham. The 1st Prize shearling in the judging was awarded to Messrs Ridley which realised 850gns. The female section was particularly buoyant as the Ettrick flock topped the overall price list at 2,200gns for a very classy shearling gimmer which was purchased over the telephone by Mrs E Daff of Greenside. Gimmers in the same pen were particularly sought after as prices reached 1,050gns and 800gns. The Rascarrel pen of gimmers also created a great deal of interest and topped at 1,900gns.
Taking the premier prize in the female section was a gimmer from Mr A Brown from Stonefieldhill which realised 500gns. Trade throughout the day was very satisfactory as all vendors left the ringside very satisfied with the days events. Averages
