Nineteenth Annual Show & Sale of 918 MV Accredited pedigree rams & females for the Solway & Tyne Texel Breeders Club.

‘TEXEL TOPPERS’
Seven lots from the end of the sale provided the sale topper of 10,000gns at the Solway & Tyne Texel Breeders club show and sale held at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th September 2002.

Baltier Imp

Baltier Imp a March born son of Craighead Hercules and out of a Turin Cain sired dam from Robert Forsyth & Sons of Baltier, Whithorn, Wigtownshire. Imp stood 2nd and reserve overall champion and found his new home with Messrs J Innes & Sons of Dunscroft, Huntly, Aberdeen.

Next in line at 9,000gns and aptly named was Searigg it’s a corker from Eileen Dunlop of Searigg, Carrutherstown, Dumfries. This much admired Muiresk Forever son travels north to Old Field Farm, Thurso, Caithness to Mr Charles Angus & Sons.

Mr AC Tweddle of Irthing House, Gilsland, Brampton signed his cheque for 5,800gns to secure the top lamb in the Goldies pen from James K Goldie of Townfoot, Mouswald, Dumfries. This March lamb was sired by Milnbank Episode and being out of an Alwent Fanatic ewe.

Local breeders RM & C Beaty of Mansion House, Southerfield, Abbeytown, Wigton joined the list next with Newtonfield Ideal a Knock Firefly son and out of a Kerse Buster ewe. Ideal was knocked down at 4,800gns to Jack Irving of Stone House, Gretna.

Shearling rams met with a buoyant trade topping at 3,000gns for a Woodmarsh bred ram sired by Baltier Freddie from Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, Hesket-new-market, Wigton. He now joins the Tophill flock of David Houghton, Isherwood Farm, Bury, Lancs.

A Culterallers Dram sired shearling ram from Messrs Quick of Loosebeare, Manor, Crediton, Devon changed hands at 2,800gns going to A Gray of Langside, Lanark.

On the Thursday evening females peaked at 2,200gns for a stylish Handbank Fortunatus sired shearling gimmer from TM Verity of Barrowby Grange, Harrogate. She now joins her new home with JJ Crosier of Whin Hill House, Settle, N.Yorkshire.

Averages - 28 Aged Rams £590.44, 257 Shearling Rams £663.46, 298 Lamb Rams £563.37, 141 Shearling Gimmers £361.54, 10 Ewe Lambs £316.05.
