On Thursday 17th October 2002 the second day of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association `C` District Ram Sale at Kirkby Stephen, Harrison & Hetherington Limited presented an entry of 498 Shearling Rams.

Mr GA Slack, Stoneriggs sold his champion for £101,000

Records were smashed throughout the sale with two rams selling above the previous highest price of £50,000, Mr GA Slack, Stoneriggs sold his champion for £101,000 to Messrs WM Hutchinson & Sons, Redgate and Messrs Harrison, Tailbert, later in the sale Mesrs Nelson, Bull & Cave sold their leading ram for £55,000 to Mossdale Farms and Mr JA Alderson, Barras. The days sale average of £2259.40 also beat the best ever one day average by £830.00 showing that the breed is still continuing to expand throughout Great Britain.
