5,200GNS LEADS SUFFOLK SALE

Five Suffolk breeders offered consignments of in lamb ewes and gimmers on Saturday at Borderway Mart, Carlisle. The entries included were from the Burndale flock of Derek Henderson, from the Ewebank flock of Judith Barbour, from the Kings flock of Robin Irwin, from the Solwaybank flock of Iain Barbour and from the Wells flock of Harry Sleigh.

Ewebank Ewe - 5,200gns

Judith Barbour of the Ewebank flock led the Sale with her one crop ewe. This group one Glenisla Grimaldi bred ewe sold in lamb to Stockton Savannah, attracted a lot of interest right from the start of the bidding as it was left with two telephone bids to battle it out. Finally at 5,200gns the hammer went down and she sold to G Killilea of Co.Galway, Eire. Her mother, a maternal sister to Ewebank Elite, is a Muiresk Dancing Brave bred daughter.

A gimmer from the Solwaybank flock of Iain Barbour sold for 3,000gns. This group one gimmer, sired by Strathisla Scallywag and out of a Glenisle Grimaldi daughter, sold in lamb to Stockton Savannah. She was also knocked down to Gerry Killilea of Eire.

The Burndale flock from Derek Henderson, produced a top price of 1,800gns for an ARR/ARR one crop ewe. Sired by Solwaybank Salute and out of a Crosemanor Commandeur bred mother, she was sold to A Douglas & Sons of Cairness, Aberdeenshire.

The consignment from the Wells flock of HP Sleigh & Son, saw a gimmer reach to 1,000gns. A daughter of Glenhead New Life, this January born ARR/ARR sold in lamb to Strathisla Kingsway and went to E Bell of Huntly.

The journey north for TA Irwin & Son of the Kings flock proved successful as the leading price was 550gns for a one crop ewe sired by Kings Starlight. She sold in lamb to Glenhead Glaramara and was knocked down to Messrs Decock of Belgium.

Averages – Solwaybank flock 8 ewes £273, 21 gimmers £575. Ewebank flock 5 ewes £1,396.50, 2 gimmers £267.75. Burndale flock 16 ewes £349.78. Kings flock 4 ewes £477.75, 3 gimmers £304.50. Wells flock 11 ewes £271.09, 12 gimmers £297.50.
