OLD BLOODLINES ATTRACT SUFFOLK BREEDERS Four well known Suffolk flocks were dispersed through Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 21st November 2005, selling to a top price of 2,200gns. The first flock to come through the ring was the Blackhall flock for Messrs JA & JA Barron of Findowrie Farm, Brechin, Angus. Many of the bloodlines included the old established Barrons name which is recognised throughout the country. Leading this consignment at 1,400gns was one of the stock rams on offer Cairness Magicman. A son of Cairness Capello and out of a Stockton Storm bred daughter, he was sold to Messrs AJ & JJ Shepherd of St Helens Farm, Skipton. Following at 1,200gns was a group one ewe lamb sired by Plasllewelyn Pure Genius and out of Cairness Royal Command bred mother. This very stylish lamb was knocked down to Mr JK Evans of Betws Yn Rhos, Abergele. Three lots sold for 1,000gns, the first being an ARR/ARR shearling gimmer sired by Glenho Solid Gold, then a ewe lamb by Pure Genius, both going to Mr SW Cobbald of Acton Hall, Suffolk. The third 1,000gn bid also went to a ewe lamb bred by Cairness Magicman and was purchased by Mr J Douglas of Cairness, Fraserburgh. The second flock to be sold was the Hareshaw flock from Mrs Gill Francis of Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Topping this flock was the stock ram, Conveth The Count Down, a group one Castlewellan Nutcracker son bred from a Muiresk The Menace dam. He sold to Mr B Roden of Mansellacy, Hereford. Local Dumfriesshire breeder Mr A Marshall of Hardgrove Farms offered his Solway flock and sold to a top price of 320gns for a one crop ewe. A daughter of Glenhead Gold and from a dam sired by Glenhead Purely The Best, she was knocked down to Messrs Armstrong of Townhead Farm, Walton. The fourth flock of the sale produced the leading price of the day at 2,200gns consigned by Mr Adrian Leach of the Fieldhead flock based at Hebden Bridge, W.Yorkshire. The greatly admired ewe lamb, an ARR/ARR daughter of Muiresk Arko and with Birness and Castlewellan breeding on her mothers pedigree, she sold to Mr Tom Bailey of Eire. Also reaching the four figure mark at 1,000gns was a three crop ewe from Fieldhead. This Cairness Expression sired daughter was bought by Mr A Sked of Gifford, East Lothian. Averages Hareshaw flock 9 ewes £157.50, 27 shearling gimmers £99.56, 1 stock ram £1,365.00. Solway flock 5 ewes £226.80, 1 shearling gimmer £84.00, 5 ewe lambs £117.60.
