ROUSSIN SHEEP SOCIETY THIRTEENTH
NATIONAL SHOW & SALE
A strong interest was shown at the official Roussin sheep
society show and sale on Saturday 27th September 2003 at Borderway
Mart, Carlisle.
A top call of 680gns was secured for the 1st prize lamb ram from Messrs McCornick
of Boreland, Kirkcowan, Newton Stewart. Their single March born lamb was knocked
down to Northern Ireland breeder Reg Annett of Co.Down.
A couple of lots later was the next leading price of 360gns again for a lamb
ram. Bred from the Stairhaven flock of Wigtownshire breeder John Fleming of Castle
Sinniness, Glenluce, this February born ARR/ARQ lamb sold to Mr K Young of Tormitchell
Farm, Girvan.
Reaching the 300gns price were two shearling rams. The first came from breed
secretary Alan and Ann Wright of the Glenisla flock with their ARR/ARR triplet
born ram which changed hands to join the Summerhill flock of D & SM Lindsay
of Balmaclellan, Castle Douglas. The other ram was consigned by Messrs McCornick
of Newton Stewart and knocked down to Mr K Young of Tormitchell Farm, Girvan.
Leading the female section at 270gns was the reserve overall champion a shearling
gimmer from the McCornick flock. She successfully sold to the judge, B & P
Small of Devon.
Averages - 9 Shearling Rams £226.33 (minus £96.55), 1 Aged Ram £199.50
(n/c), 11 Lamb Rams £259.64 (plus £100.11), 9 Shearling Gimmers £157.50
(n/c), 6 Ewe Lambs £169.75 (plus £43.75).
