Fifteenth Annual show and sale of Rouge de l'Ouest Sheep
Friday 15th August 2003 The overall ram champion clinched the top price at the Rouge Society premier show and sale at Carlisle on Friday 15th August 2003. Selling for 800gns Bennachie Commander, an ARR/ARR lamb ram, was consigned by Aberdeenshire breeders Mr & Ms P Imlah of Kingseat, Newmacher. Commander, sired by Bennachie All-Star and going back to the noted Panther ram was sold to Miss K Ayres of Windy Harbour Farm, Nelson, Lancs. An aged ram from the Fran flock of Francine Murray, Driffield, took the next leading price tag at 650gns. Fran Atomic, a January 2001 born ram by Woolneys Utopia, travels to Bradford for Mr N Bland of Mealbridge Farm. Noted breeder David Jane of the Broadwood flock from Bridgwater, Somerset, sold two shearling rams for 500gns each. The first ram, Broadwood Big Brother by the imported ram Bruiser, is no stranger to the show ring as he won Male Champion at this years Royal show being the fourth consecutive generation of Champions from this line. He later sold to Mr DS Bell of Banbridge, Co.Down, N.Ireland. David Janes second shearling ram, Broadwood Braveheart is also well used to the show ring after winning 1st prize at this years Royal Highland show and being a member of the reserve interbreed pair at the Royal Show 2003. He is sired by the noted Masterclass ram and his dam is by Broadwood Rock Solid. He later sold to Rawding Ptrs of Manor House Farm, Herts. Averages:- Pedigree Rouge de l'Ouest sheep sold to 900gns and averaged £540 for shearling rams at the society sale at Borderway on August 16 2002. It was the male champion at the Royal Show sired by Masterclass which topped the entry for owner David Jane, of Bridgwater, Somerset. Broadwood Aristocrat, impressed for length and exceptional hindquarter. He stood champion and sold to J Allan, of Dromore, Northern Ireland. Another Broadwood shearling also sired by Masterclass sold to 520gns to Messrs Collister, of Maryport, and ram lambs from the sale flock sold at 390gns and 380gns. The first was six month old Broadwood Banker which sold to P Imlah, of Newacher, Aberdeen while J Charlton and Sons, of Cleator Moor paid 380gns for a twin ram lamb. A ram lamb from Sue Wilkinson's flock in North Yorkshire made 450gns for the January 2002 born Langlands Bimbo which sold to Ipswich for TJ Prentice. Averages: 4 shearling rams, £540.75; 11 ram lambs, £314.05; 6 shearling gimmers, £111.13; 2 ewe lambs, £97.13. |
