The Barclays Bank Male Championship was judged by Brian Proctor, Far Cappleside, Settle he presented it to D N Bennett & Son, Tyn-y- Coed, Meifod, Powys. Their stylish group one genotyped shearling ram realised 4000gns and was knocked down to Denton Park Estates, Ilkley, W.Yorks. Taking the Reserve Male title was a shearling ram from James Goldie, Townfoot, Dumfries he later made 3500gns and was purchased by Nancy Allison, Anston Farm, Dunsyre. Female Judge Willie Davidson, Poldean, Moffat presented the Barclays Bank Female Championship to D N Bennett & Son for a pen of five outstanding ewe lambs, Willie Davidson later purchased them for £300 a head, a record for Lleyn ewe lambs. Taking 2 nd prize in the ewe lamb section was Farmstock Genetics, Over Whitlaw, Selkirk with a pen of five flashy ewe lambs these were purchased by A F Toner, 8 Rochester Avenue, West Gate, Morecambe. Top price in the gimmers was a pen of 10 at £260 a head from John Geldard, Low Foulshaw Farm, Gilpin Bridge . These were purchased by J A Robertson & Partners, Mid Linthills, Lochwanloch, Renfrewshire for the foundation of a new flock, having tried some in 2004 successfully on a commercial basis. J A Robertson & Partners also took a pen of five gimmers from D N Bennett & Son at £200 a head. J J Kingan, Lane Side Farm, Troqueer, Dumfries paid £200 a head for a pen of five 2 nd prize gimmers from David Alexander, Millside Farm, Galston, Ayrshire.
The atmosphere was electric as ram trade topped at 9000gns equal to the top Lleyn ram record. The first sale topper D40842 / 809, was Derek's favourite from the Westerhouses pen of 6 from Derek Steen, Westerhouses Farm, Bonchester Bridge which averaged 2488gns. He was bought by a syndicate of John Page, Udford, Edenhall, Penrith and R Wilson, Scales Farm, Berrier, Penrith. Paying out 8500gns for D46 / 893 who was another cracking ram from D N Bennett & Son, the ram was a son of A288/737 the previous 9000gns record holder he was purchased by Willie Davidson, Poldean, Moffat. The Bennett family sold three rams to average 5666gns which was the top pen average for the sale. Two rams made 7000gns the first from James Goldie, Townfoot, Dumfries , this powerful ram with plenty of stretch and body was purchased by D N Bennett & Son. The second ram at 7000gns was turned out by a delighted Cindy Steen, Whitcastles Farm, Corrie, Lockerbie he heads north to Michael Cursiter, Laga Farms, Orkney. Averages: In brackets 2004 prices. 12 aged rams £1284.50 (£506 ) 136 Shearling rams £1165.42 (£873), 2 Ram lambs 480gns (£480). 552 ewes £64.96 (£88.35), 2096 shearlings £99.80 (£116.84), 2211 ewe lambs £68.51 (£71.88).
