A good commercial demand prevailed at the annual show and sale of pedigree Charollais sheep at Carlisle on Friday 27th August 2004.

Two rams attracted the leading price of 500gns. The first for an ARR/ARR shearling ram from Charles Marwood of the Foulrice flock, Nr.York. His December 2002 born shearling is a son of Westonvale Jubilee and carries a breed index of 291. He was sold to Mr J Sedgewick of Camp Farm, Papcastle, Cockermouth.

Also selling for 500gns was a lamb ram from local breeders Messrs JA & R Geldard & Sons of the Wraycastle flock, Kendal. Their triplet born lamb by Harmby Moor Capelo was knocked down to WH Smith & Sons of West Shields, Tow Law, Co.Durham.

Following at 480gns were another two rams. The first being a shearling ram from Messrs Wales of the Thackwood flock, Carlisle. Their group 1 ram, a February 2003 born son of Coventry Ted, was sold to Mr P Edmondson of Seathwaite, Keswick.

The second entry at 480gns was a ram lamb from Miss Deborah Marwood of the Galtres flock based at Whenby, Yorkshire. Sired by Mortimer Majestic, this ARR/ARR lamb was successfully knocked down to RR & JA Knowles of Myers Farm, Kendal.

Averages – 19 shearling rams £372.47, 21 lamb rams £332.50, 6 ewe lambs £264.25.
