SHOW AND SALE OF REGISTERED BLUEFACED LEICESTER SHEEP
FRIDAY 10th OCTOBER 2003

BLUEFACED LEICESTER RAM LAMBS SELL TO £8,000

The 38th annual show and sale of 664 registered Bluefaced Leicesters took place within Borderway Mart on Friday 10th October 2003.

There was a larger show of sheep on the year with a tremedous entry of top quality stock from all breeders. This was appreciated, with the largest attendance of buyers seen for many a year at this prestigious show & sale. Bidding was on a very brisk note, with all averages well up on the year.

The pre-sale judging in the ram section was carried out by Mr A Forster, Lowes Fell, Hexham who awarded the Championsip rosette to a ram lamb from Miss SA Harding, Shrewbridge Court, Nantwich, Cheshire which later changed hands for £1,000 to travel to the Isle of Man for Mr WE Parsons, Ballamilgyn Farm, Laxey.

The reserve ticket went to the 2nd prize ram lamb from Mr RE Wharton, Dykesfield Cottage, Burgh by Sands which later changed hands at £2,700 to fellow enthusiast Mosser Mains Farm, Mosser Mains, Cockermouth.

In the female section, the pre sale judging was most ably carried out by Mr Elfyn Owen, Ffritharw, Llanddoged, Llanrwst, who awarded the championship to an exceptional shearling gimmer exhibited by MC Robinson & Son, West Cocklaw, Humshaugh which later sold for £1,000 to Mr A Jackson, Covington Mill, Thankerton, Biggar.

Standing in reserve place was an outstanding ewe lamb consigned by regular sale supporter Mr J McTurk, Glenhowl, Kendoon, Dalry the lamb later realised £750 to Messrs Sutherland, Sibmister, Thurso.

Trade throughout the female section was very good with 100% clearout as all vendors left the ringside pleased with the prices received.

The sale also included the dispersal of the Dardarroch flock property of Mr J West, Dardarroch House, Dunscore, Dumfries. The sheep were keenly sought after, being dispersed to all parts of the United Kingdom at very satisfactory prices.

Top price of the day however, went to N. Ireland breeder Mr R Mulligan, (Brague Flock) 21 Brague Road, Bainbridge, Co. Down with his ARR/ARR Tullyvallen sired ram lamb which sold for £8,000 to join the Scrainwood Flock of Messrs Snaith & Son, Scrainwood, Alnham, Alnwick, Northumberland.
