MV Accredited Pedigree Berrichon du Cher Sheep
(Sold under the British Berrichon du Cher Sheep Society Rules)
Friday 27th August 2004

| 2,400gns |
A shearling ram from Devon breeder Malcolm Yeo broke the Berrichon
du Cher record price at 2,400gns on Friday August 27th 2004 at the
annual show
and sale at Borderway.
Purchasers were Will Cockbain and sons John and James, for their 15-ewe
Rakefoot flock at Keswick.
The ram is by a French sire bought in 2001 out of a home-bred ewe from
the 100-ewe Swincombe pedigree Berrichon flock based at North Church,
Yarnscombe, Barnstaple - 400 miles from Harrison and Hetherington's Carlisle
sales centre.
Mr Yeo held the previous record for the breed when he sold a female for
2,000gns.
Will Cockbain said: "He is a naturally big ram for the breed.
He has all the commercial qualities - fantastic gigots without a belly.
He is the best ram I have seen for a while and you only get one chance
to buy him."
The Cockbains sold their 2004 Cumberland County Show breed champion,
a home-bred shearling ewe, for 600gns to N Barron, of Cattistock, Dorchester
who also paid 700gns – the top female price of the sale for a
two shear ewe from Robert Graham, of Airthrey Kerse, Bridge of Allan.
Mr Graham sold the second highest priced entry, a four shear ram called
Samson which was the Paris Show champion in 2003 for 1,200gns to R
Johnston & Sons,
Roughlands, Falkirk.
The championship went to Mark and Helen Crane, of Meadowbank, Shipdam,
Thetford, Norfolk, with their Royal Show champion from 2003 and this
year, a scrapie one aged ram which went to Mr Green, of Carlton Curlew,
Leicester for 1,000gns.
