BELTEX SOCIETY PREMIER IN-LAMB SHOW & SALE

Quality Beltex in-lamb females were in demand selling to a top price of 1,400gns at the Beltex Sheep Society’s premier show and sale at Carlisle on Friday 9th December 2005.

While it was the shearling gimmers which made the most money with a similar number sold to last year, a larger number of older ewes sold well.

The 1,400gns top price went to a February 2004 born imported shearling gimmer from Doreen Mair’s Aviemore flock at Turriff, Aberdeenshire, selling to Scottish breeders K Gill and Co, of Easter Templand, Fortrose, Ross-shire.

The gimmer had earlier been selected the show’s overall champion by the judge, Allan Jackson, of Covington Mill Farm, Thankerton, Biggar and is in lamb to Kauwenberg Knock Out.

Two more shearling gimmers from the Aviemore flock were in the leading prices.

Three lots made the second top price of 1,000gns. First through the ring was a February 2003 born scrapie genotype group one ewe, Coningswick Ginny, from father and son John and Nick Frazier who topped last year’s Carlisle in-lamb sale with a home-bred shearling gimmer.

Ginny was scanned with twins to Pentland Hero, the record priced ram lamb which the Fraziers paid 6,800gns for at the Carlisle August 2004 premier Beltex Sheep Society sale for their Coningswick flock at Rock, Kidderminster, Worcestershire.

While in the Coningswick flock she bred the Royal Welsh show first prize winning ram lamb. By a home-bred ram, she sold to JE Collinge, Whitehill Cottage, Middlebie, Lockerbie.

An imported shearling gimmer from Gavin Shanks and Alan Thom’s Garrion flock at Bowman Hurst, Brownlee Estate, Carluke, Lanarkshire, which was placed second in its class to the champion also sold for 1,000gns to Messrs Morrison, Myton Hall Farm, Myton on Swale, Helperby.

They also showed the reserve champion, a ewe lamb from their annual consignment imported from Belgian breeder Tony Van Esser, which left the ring unsold.

Messrs Morrison also bought Shanks and Thom’s joint third top price of the sale, another shealrling gimmer, Garrion Haidee, a scrapie genotype group one female.

A third shearling gimmer made 1,000gns for Gordon Connor and Scott Dalrymple, of Fairspark, Boness, West Lothian.

From the partnership’s Dun-Mor flock and from imported bloodlines, Dun-Mor Hallo sold to North Yorkshire breeders Messrs Morrison.

Cumbrian breeders Kevin and Rachel Buckle sold a shearling gimmer from their Buckles flock at Barras, Kirkby Stephen for 800gns.

The imported gimmer was AId to Airyolland Hercules, the highest priced ram lamb at the Beltex Scotland sale in 2004 and sold to C Parry, of Fron Farm, Beaumaris, Gwynedd.
