The Braymeadow herd of pedigree jerseys from Mr & Mrs N Dain, Malting
Farm, Blonorton Road, Lopham, Diss, Norfolk. This is an most interesting
herd and excels in type. Although the herd is run very commercially and
not pushed for every last drop of milk, the depth of breeding and potential
was respected by a large crowd of Jersey and Holstein breeders from around
the UK and Ireland.
Averages: 55 Cows and Heifers in milk and or in calf (with heifer calves) £641.36 12 In calf heifers £527.63 12 Maiden heifers £564.38 FOREWORD The “Braymeadow” herd of Pedigree Jersey cattle was founded in 1990 with one cow from the “Kentucky” herd dispersal sale. She was Kentucky Banks Moneypenny and she has many descendants still in the herd. Purchases followed from “Woodhall”, “Tetfor” and finally the real star “Wellhead Dreamers Squidgy EX91” from Ken Timbury Farms. She founded the Misty family and still has daughters in the herd today. Braymeadow Herd has had good successes in the show rings, having had the breed champion at the Royal Norfolk, Suffolk, Aylesham, Hadleigh, Essex, and the South of England, and Jersey Breed Champion at the Jersey National with Squidgy and of course many other first and group winners for the past few years we have won type, management, young stock and management trophies in the EAJCC Herd Competition. Although bred mainly for type, Canadian and American Sires have superceded the New Zealand foundation stock and of late we have used some Danish bloodlines to protect and help butterfat and protein percentages. At present the herd classification stands at 8 EX, 23 VG, 32 GP and 3 G, averaging 84.7 points. Mr Les Kerridge has run his small herd of Coldale Jerseys with Braymeadow for many years and has decided to sell along with them. There has never been a case of BSE in the herd and the herd was clear of TB at it’s latest test in January 2004. The cattle are milked twice daily with a current rolling herd average of 5,000kgs @ 5.59%BF and 4.00%P (cell count 100). The sale comprises of 101 pedigree jerseys with 54 cows/heifers in milk/ and or incalf; 9 in calf heifers; 37 bulling, maiden and heifer calves and 1 bull. The Braymeadow Dispersal sale is an important sale for all pedigree dairy breeders to attend and invest in exceptional quality.
