THE 22nd ANNUAL NATIONAL “GOLD TOP” SHOW AND SALE OF REGISTERED PEDIGREE JERSEY CATTLE followed by THE CARDEWLEES PRODUCTION SALE

WEDNESDAY 25th AUGUST 2004

Danish Du Albatross Bittersweet

The “Gold Top” sale at Borderway Mart saw an excellent entry of Pedigree Jersey cattle at this annual collective event. Also encouraging was the big crowd of pedigree and commercial buyers which ensured a very respectable trade and a virtual 100% sell out.

Seven animals made over 1,000 gns to a top of 2,720 gns for Danish Du Albatross Bittersweet consigned by John & Carol McIlwraith, Balig Farm, Ayr. This outstanding young cow in her second lactation has already given 6,904kgs 4.96% 3.96% in 267 days. Sired by Q Albatros and back in calf to Rock Ella Paramount, she was purchased by Mrs JM Waring, Field House Farm, Beverley, E Yorks.

Priestcar Renake Bambi

The second top price was the Reserve Champion, Priestcar Renake Bambi, successfully shown by Mr BR & Miss RL Jarvis, priestcar Lodge, Marton-Cum-Grafton, North Yorshire. Paying 1,700gns for this sweet heifer was Clandeboye Estate, Clandeboye, Bangor, Co Down, N Ireland.

Five heifers sold at 1,000gns. First came Dunure Mirage Acacia from J&C McIlwraith, Balig. She sold to R Armour, Dunnminning Road, Glarryford, Co Antrim, N I. Two heifers from the Farlam herd of J Thompson & Son, Farlam Hill, Brampton both sold to Mr AA Johnston, Bustabeck Farm, Sebergham, Carlisle. Farlam Yanks Dandelion and Farlam Yvonne Dawn.

Miss Alison Hunter, West Tarbrax Farm, Shotts, Lanarkshire sold her entry, Clydevalley Jewel Lily to R Young, Over Auchintiber, Stewarton, Ayrshire.

THE CARDEWLEES PRODUCTION SALE

The Cardewless Production Sale, which immediately followed the 22nd Gold Top Show & Sale, was supported by a large crowd of both breeders and buyers from all over the country. Roger Truella, Field Officer for the Jersey Cattle Society stated “Borderway Mart, Carlisle, is the obvious choice for marketing pedigree jerseys”.

Realising the top price was Riggiston Cosmos Blackberry VG88 for 1,250gns. This second calver by Windsor Eltons Cosmonaut is back in calve to Dalena Imperial Saracen. The purchaser was Kerbanks Partnership, Bolton Cottage Wigton.

Bluestone Jackie VG87sold for 1,200 gns to JD & J Jones, Springfield Farm, Ridley Lane, Mawsdley. This second calver by Topsy Design Dreamer has numerous show winnings including 1st Heifer in Milk & Reserve Champion Westmorland Show 2002.

JR Heuchan & Son, Gerranton, Castle Douglas took home Farletonview Miss Polly VG86 for 1,150gns. This young cow is recently fresh and is currently giving 30.2kgs daily.

Also at 1,150gns was Pavenham Blackberry 4 VG86 by Belles Expo. This heifer, from 2 generations of VG or EX is projected to give 5,467kgs in her current lactation and sold to Pavenham Jerseys, Sedbury Home Farm, Gilling West, Richmond.
