The Lakes Counties Jersey Cattle Club hosted the Seventh Spring Gold Top Sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 23rd April 2003. This, being the first sale since 2000, realised a tremendous trade for 30 pedigree Jerseys.

Consignments were made both locally from Cumbria, Yorkshire, Northumberland, Derbyshire & Oxfordshire. A crowded ringside watched as the hammer fell three times for animals realising 1,000gns and over.

The top price of 1,050 for a fresh calved heifer, imported from Denmark and sired by Fyn Balsa. This heifer exhibits great potential for production records from the dam’s performance of 6.78Bf and 4.13 P. Consigned by Jersey Genetics Limited, Oxfordshire she now enters the herd of Messrs GM & AJ Harrison, Manor Farm, Leyburn, North Yorkshire.

The second top price of 1,020gns was also for a Danish imported heifer consigned by Jersey Genetics Limited, Oxfordshire. Sired by Fyn Lemvig and in-calf to Kristo RB, has great production potential from the dam’s performance of 7,250kgs at 5.97BF and 4.10P. She enters the herd of H Buchanan & Son, Laigh, Ballantrae, Girvan.

Local breeders, M/S Rawstron, Cardewlees Jerseys Ltd, Dalston, Carlisle took home Farelton Miss Polly for 1,000gns. She was consigned by local breeders M/S JA & Y Raven, Skiddaw,Wigton, Cumbria.
