On Wednesday 16th July at Borderway Mart,
Harrison & Hetherington
held their weekly dairy sale again combined most successfully with
the monthly Pedigree Show and Sale for the Border & Lakeland
Holstein Breeders Club.
In the weekly sale there were 30 forward
and the club consignment was 25 with a 100% sell out for both sections.
Quality was generally good but with a few exceptions not startling,
resulting in a very level trade to average over £1100 for
pedigree cows and heifers and nearly £800 in the commercial
section.
The show was expertly judged by Lee Graham “Hethersgill” who
recently won both the Linear and stockjudging at the Royal Show.
The
top price of 2,000 gns was for a striking, superbly uddered second
calf cow from Messrs Butterfield’s Ingleview Buttergirl
family. By Sir Vanetas Vince, the cow won Supreme Champion and
now joins Messrs Wainwrights herd at Castle Farm, Low Hesket.
The
reserve Champion and second top priced animal, also bought by the
Wainwrights was a fresh Silky Cousteau daughter consigned
by Messrs Dent of “Bridgend”
