An exceptionally good quality line up of fresh heifers and young cows consigned for the club sale held in Borderway Mart on Wednesday 18th June.

On offer was probably the one of the best overall collection of modern, well-bred with balanced type and production females.

This was respected by the buyers who had the good sense to bid strongly to ensure an average of nearly 1,400gns for heifers with 100% sell out and cows to 1,200gns.

The champion, a hugely admired VG 2yr old Fatal from the heart of the Bricknell Ethel family, was bred and consigned by Gerald Carter and family, Fangfoss, York. April calved and in full bloom, selling for 2,900gns, she will now grace the Carrhall herd of the Mallinson family and stand alongside a wealth of well bred cattle of the now reformed herd at Low Northsceugh, Armathwaite, Carlisle.

A classy Storm from the Lavenham Lady Dilly family was one of a yet another good string consigned by Nelson Barton and family, which realised 1800gns, the second highest price of the day. She now enters the herd of RM & N Wainwright & Son Ltd, Castle Farm, Low Hesket, Carlisle.

Bricknell Lee Ruby a heifer bred from 9 generations of VG or Excellent cows and VG 2yr old herself made 1550gns for Gerald Carter and joins the noted Bengal Hill Herd of the Firm of R Reid, Bengal Hill, Lockerbie.
