Borderway Mart hosted another hugely successful Pedigree Holstein Sale on Wednesday 16th October, combining the monthly Border & Lakeland Show and Sale with a Dispersal of followers from the ?DurhamdaleOL Herd.
The catalogue of ?ClubOL females was not only bigger than of late (74 catalogued) but richer in the PI and pedigrees for the Sale. An undoubted highlight of the Sale was the consignment of young cows from the Oliver family?s (with Robert Martin) ?AnsaOL herd from Stocksfield, Northumberland. Philip Oliver who manages the Hunday herd for Peter Moffit invested some years ago in the ?MolliOL family originating in North America and has developed his line very successfully indeed. The top price of the day, 2000gns was for a Wells Mascot Corky daughter of Ansa Prelude Molli Ex (Ex-MS), she sold 6 weeks fresh with her third calf and is the 8th successive VG or Ex (6 being Excellent), her Leduc calf made 650gns. The Ansa/ Roevalley consignment of Molli`s and Pami`s averaged well over ’2100. At 2050gns was her Grandslam sister, that sold in calf to Leduc with exceptional butterfat and protein amongst her many attributes she has a show winning Miley Gilbert yearling heifer coming to the noted Black and White Sale in Borderway at the end of November, one of three super calves representing ?AnsaOL at the event. The Carter family from York no stranger to success at these Club Sales and Gerald led round the second top price of 2150gns. She was a fresh Ruby heifer backed by eight Excellent dams and by Blondin Calgary. The worthy champion female, under Paul Rawcliffe`s expert eye, was a very fresh (1 week) heifer Maloya Leo bred and shown by Ian Duncan of the ?BroadleaOL herd. With an overall average of ’1200 for all milking cows and heifers (100% sellout) and six making over 2000gns the sale was not only a success but absolute proof that there was a considerable reward for breeders who consigned well bred, stylish young milking heifers and cows. Immediately following was Edwin Taylor`s ?DurhamdaleOL youngstock dispersal, having sold the milking portion privately in the summer for FMD restocking, this sale comprised all the served and maiden heifers, the majority of the served heifers were due from January to April 2003. Once again it was immensely rewarding to see buyers being quality selective both in type and breeding. Two heifers made four figures 1000gns bid was successful to acquire a Formation off the Moet Lea PI family and also at 1000gns was another Formation from the Hunday Bunty`s.
