A small but sensible entry of young cows and
heifers was forward for the Border & Lakeland Holstein club
show and sale, which followed the weekly commercial dairy sale.
Trade throughout was slightly better than expected,
but represented good value for the buyers.
The top price of 1,000gns was paid by Brian Salisbury of the Glenfield
herd at Welton, Carlisle for one of a very decent batch of cattle
consigned by Robert Harrison and familys Hazelhead herd.
Six weeks calved and by Comestar Leader, the heifer which won reserve
champion, carried two generations of Holstein sires on top of a
Friesian pedigree.
The overall champion, Messrs Broughs Criffelhill
Lesley 15, a six week calved heifer by Rudolph was knocked down
for 900gns to Messrs Chapelhow of Morland and was one of a smart
strong of heifers bred in this popular herd.
Averages - 5 cows £653.10, 22 heifers
£736.30.
